Bvlgari’s new record-breaking release is the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, only 1.85mm thick! The integrated movement, dials and cases are skeletonized to further reduce unnecessary layers. The main plate is made from carbide tungsten, and the case and bracelet are lightweight titanium.

Whenever the thinness record is broken, you will need to set an alarm for a year that will inevitably break again. At least that’s what’s been happening between the two Titans, Bvlgari and Piaget, over the past few years (Richard Mill and Constantine Chakin have also put in effort). In 2023, Bvlgari won the world’s thinnest watch title with the 1.7mm Octo Finissimo Ultra Cosc, while Piaget squeezed it with the world’s thinnest tourbillon with the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon. Currently, the Bulgarioto Finisimo Ultra Tourbillon jumps ahead of the tourbillon list, beating Piaget’s achievements with a total thickness of just 1.85mm.
At this point in the thinnest watch race, we certainly have to reach the threshold of possibility. These watches need not only be thin, but they must be strong enough to wear and be reliable enough to not require constant repairs or services. The concepts of cases and movements are no longer applied as such elements are necessarily integrated.
To achieve a 1.85mm thickness of the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, Bvlgari has been transformed into a complete skeletalization, removing sections of the caseback. What remains is essentially a component of movement that is just sandwiched between the sapphire crystals, and the reduction in thickness must also come from the part of the movement itself. It’s complicated, beautifully executed, and ultimately a kind of genius that is difficult to top.
Despite the thin wafer case, Octo Finissimo’s personality remains the same. The octagonal bezel and harsh facet lugs take inspiration from Roman architecture of Bvlgari origin, with a diameter of 40mm worn out quite heavily in this shape, but with titanium in the case and bracelet it feels almost weightless.
The main plate, which acts both as a dial and as a movement, is made of tungsten carbide. This is a metal composite that is normally used in machining due to its strength and resistance to wear. The bracelet itself is an impressive engineering feat, only 1.5mm thin (including clasp).
The caliber BVF 900 is what you see when you look at the dial and you can also check out many parts from the rear view. The main spring barrel is the biggest element of the dial as it requires a 42-hour power reserve to be stored horizontally. There is a sub-dial in the top right, and a very eye-catching skeletonized tourbillon. It is beaten with 28,800 vibrations per hour, which is already faster than many standard tourbillons, with the caseback having two separate planar crowns. The one on the left of the case wraps the watch, and the one on the right sets the time. No additional tools or attachments are required. How to wear a watch accurately.
