There are always ways to make everything cheaper. However, every brand that claims to offer luxury products for achievable prices has 10 unnamed sellers whose products collapse in a few weeks. If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t spend money on avoiding buying something twice, a luxury brand like Charles Simon is the only place. Not only do you get the best materials and have a neat design, but it’s an attitude of excellence that comes from an engineering background.
One of the biggest factors that sets Charles Simon apart from all other watch accessory brands is that it is not simply a watch accessory company. While watches definitely play a strong role in the company’s culture, their catalogue expands to business, lifestyle and travel products, including incredible suitcases with retractable wheels. Of course, the founders were both Charles and Simon, skilled engineers before they founded the company in 2014. We’re not just talking about basic leatherwork, either, as most enthusiasts can tie up a decent watch roll with a few afternoon effort. Charles Simon is also well versed in precision machining of aluminum and is incorporated into many of his products.
Charles Simon’s latest products are also one of the simplest products, and that is the Oscar 1 Watch Roll. As the name suggests, it is designed to carry one watch every day in a hard French Tauryon leather shell lined with soft Alcantaras. The flexible inner card prevents the watch bracelet from damaging itself or the caseback. Also, if you want to keep your watch on your desk while you’re working to avoid rashes on your desk, the tray is completely removable. If the watch has leather or otherwise two-piece straps, there is also a taller version of the Oscar. This has more length to prevent the strap from being unnaturally shaved.
Another option for single watch storage is Theo. This may be a more familiar shape for those who emulate the wrist shape of the watch roll. This usually works well with both bracelets and straps. The aluminum cap brings great points of grip and stylish decoration, but also serves as a friction fit to convert the roll into a watch stand. When placed horizontally, the stem stands upright and seeks a fun watch display that can become colorful depending on your purchase. You can also determine the color of aluminum anodizing, whether it’s black, natural gray or champagne gold.
Watch stands are almost the ultimate excess. There really is no profit from a stand that you can’t get from a small case or a box that can fit multiple watches, but that doesn’t stop anyone experiencing the finer things. The Charles Simon Hudson 1 Watch Stand is made of anodized aluminum blocks welded into sculpture and geometric shapes and is covered with soft Alcantara. Theoretically it’s designed to hold a single watch, but if you slide two along the top, or use the bottom row as a tray, you’ll probably get two or three.
Charles Simon has several watch boxes and many customizable options available, but several variations of Oscar, Theo and Hudson are now available in the Time+Tide shop. Price: A $474 (Oscar) / A $794 (Theo) / A $997 (Hudson)
