We’ve been building the concept for Discovery Studios for about two years now, and it was clear that on Thursday night its founder Matteo Violet Vianello, and that we’re seeing the A1 Slate launch event be an accurate brand, person and building this. To celebrate the launch of ANOMA’s first standard production model, they hoped that Londoners would have had the opportunity to experience the watch in person. So I brought Matteo and two prototypes he had in his London studio to tell the story of the evening clock, to annotate designs and discover inspiration.
I hope that at this point you will allow for a slight tolerant tangent. I’ve known Matteo for five years. In fact, the event took place on the fifth anniversary of the day we were first featured in email. We worked together on men collected for over two years, working on the content side of the company, dealing with some of the most extraordinary clocks that went through those doors. Before starting the brand, Matteo saw Matteo grow over the past six months at ACM.
It is clear how much of his past experiences dealing with the world’s most incredible watches he has poured into this latest piece makes it seem, not his approach to his second release, not reductive, and distilling the original ANOMA A1 into even purer form. It was so wonderful to hear Matteo put it into words in front of the crowd on a Thursday evening. For example, to achieve a highly reflective and curved case, he chose the Japanese steel grade, as it is possible to reach a sharper and cleaner shine than if he went to a more enlarged Finnish steel.
Once Andrew and Matteo finished their talk, two prototypes were handed over and everyone had the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with the creator, so it was time to get this new watch. There were many questions about this unusual piece, but most of them seemed to be answered by simply picking up. As Matteo was eager to point out, this is an incredibly sensual watch, so you need all your senses to be truly grateful. Over 200 people ordered the original, but most of them did so invisibly, so now more people have the opportunity to experience this watch, so that’s definitely what we’ll see more of these getting into the wild.
The event concludes with the announcement that pre-orders for A1 slates can be placed at both Discovery Studios in London and Melbourne, and continues its philosophy of supporting young and promising brands. Multiple orders are placed at night, so you can feel a bit of a hot topic around this Pebble-like clock throughout the evening.
