Their future seemed volatile in the pandemic era, but the boutique era is completely swinging. More and more brands are opening their own brick and mortar locations, recognizing the value of being able to weave their own storytelling directly. The Vacheron Constantin Boutique in Melbourne has always been a cozy, almost holey place equipped with the luxurious furniture you’d expect from the sacred Trinity brand, but it has undergone dramatic changes over the past few months.
The downstairs area is given a bright new look with many warm tones that fit the lighting setup. To maximize the space, the display cabinets are actually surprisingly small – none of those huge glass boxes – the surroundings feel more familiar.
But it really is a new second floor area, casting the bondage of complying with what a watch boutique should look like, and it looks like an artist’s front living room. This homely feeling was part of having to adhere to strict standards of occupying a building registered in Melbourne’s heritage, but I think it really works here courtesy of Vacheron Constantin. Space is dominated by a boomerang-shaped table (not coincidentally, we are said). Before the wide, covered doorway leads to a heavy set armchair and sofa set that can be easily sunk.
And for those who love small, collectible information, there are plenty of VC nods here. The colorful and framed artwork shown in the image above is actually the entire collection of Vacheron Constantin straps, with the marble table featuring a VC branded marble carved Tic-Tac-Toe game set. Of course, that’s because.
Many boutiques, especially high-end boutiques, still suffer from excessively suffocating and hostile feelings. It makes you ask twice if you are allowed to sit, just as you would when you visit your rich and distant cousins (Am I the only one?). Vacheron Constantin’s Melbourne Boutique side steps have been a successful challenge and we’ll know how much thoughts they put in their own Discovery Studios to avoid exactly that situation. If you have free time for the upcoming weekend in Melbourne, jump into the boutique and check out the watch. There was a gold 222 sitting in the window. That’s something you don’t want to miss.

This Week’s Wristshot: Ultimate Modern Speed
Black Aventrin dial, emerald set bezel and crown, 321 movement, and all cased in platinum. This, produced with a single digit example, is about as good as a Speedmaster gets, right?
Time+Tide Shop Pick of the Week: Elliot Brown
British Watchmaker Day is around the corner, so I didn’t think there would be any more time to take Elliot Brown to the Time Tide Discovery Studios than I am now. Using a collection consisting primarily of military-style works, the company stocks families of Holton, Beachmasters and Heritage Divers in its studios in Melbourne and London.
You can check out the entire Elliot Brown collection online and then pick it up yourself in one of Discovery Studios.
