Welcome to Frateroon Air! This week we will be working on the second half of our discussion on vintage chronographs. I hope you’ll make it a nerd as I get into the weeds of this episode!
Last week we began this discussion on vintage chronographs and came up with ideas about why we find these watches so appealing. We mentioned races, space races and other bold feats, and how chronographs existed in many of these activities. Now we are ready to move on to the details.
Handgelenkskontrolle
I recorded this episode right after the end, so I skipped the usual joke. Don’t worry; I’ll be back next week! In the case of Handgelenkskontrolle, we are both left to our choice. Mike wears a roaming ray chrono diver, one of the wildest vintage chronographs he owns. The shape, quality, patina, and Valjou 23’s movement all make it a lovable piece. Balaz wears Grana Lu, a Hungarian Air Force work with a lovely patina.
Vintage Chronograph – Part 2
We’ll start with a discussion about the market for vintage chronographs. Next, I’ll buy these watches and mention what to watch out for, and what to expect during ownership. After all, these are relatively complex watches, which makes the possibility of problems more likely. Condition and originality are also worth considering. The chronograph contains many details, including specific pushers, hands, dials, and more. It is impossible to find a replacement. Finally, we will mention important models and movements. The Valjoux 72, Lemania 321, EP 4, and El Primero 3019phc are some of the mobile phones we discuss. During the show, the Breitling Chronot, Garrett decimal number, Omega Speedmaster and Zenith El Primero A386 will appear.
As always, thank you for listening. Enjoy this episode. If you want to come back and discuss your favorite vintage chronograph, please comment below. Of course, if you have any suggestions for future shows, please let us know.
