Sternglas continues to rapidly evolve its watch lineup. Today’s new Tachimeter 2.0 is a great example as it replaces the original model after a short three years of production. We like it when the company is not happy to rest on existing designs. The question is, as always, whether the latest watches have been improved. Our off-cuff response is a decisive “Yes!”
Previous Sternglas Tatimeters combined a brushed stainless steel case with an external metal bezel and a Miyota Quartz Chronograph Movement. The watch was attractive, but calm and looked very instrumental. The new Tachimeter 2.0 injects the same features from the original in a more sophisticated package. I had the opportunity to practice the watch before today’s official release and am pleased to share my impressions.
Sternglas Tachimeter 2.0
Sternglas sent me a new Tachimeter 2.0 with a blue dial. The grey dial variant with red highlights is also available to those interested in a slightly toned look. This watch updates the dimensions of the previous model with a diameter of 44mm and lug-to-lug. It is also now 11mm thick and does not include double-dome sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The 20mm lug spacing allows for multiple strap options, with the brand having a bead of slice bracelet, rubber tropical style and leather straps. Tachimeter 2.0 includes a sapphire crystal and a solid stainless steel case with four screws. It also offers a 100m water resistance rating.
The big difference in dials
Some brands update their watches with small changes or new colors. Sternglas took a more intentional approach with Tachimeter 2.0. The most obvious change is the movement from the brushed stainless steel exterior bezel to the coloured aluminum insert. The highlight of the blue bezel is the engraved tachymeter scale with white flavour markings.
The dials are also different, with a large number of colors displayed. Dark blue outer sectors surround the center of the royal blue. The contrast is further enhanced with white hour and minute rings on the outer edge of the dial. The grey subregister displays the running seconds and encapsulates the larger white black dating wheel. The black top-left register is a 60-minute total device with alternating black and blue segments every 20 minutes. Finally, the 24-hour register on the top right is made up of concentric circles. Combining the white and yellow subdial hand mixture is a syringe hand filled with a central Super Luminova and a yellow arrow-shaped chronograph second counter.

New improved case design
Tachimeter 2.0 has a new case design with a virtually thick lug. A closer look at the rug reveals new details. There is a polished matte surface and chamfer. Pump pushers with colored rings join the signed crown. From the sides, the bezel burns outward, blending a polished and brushed surface.
Switch quartz caliber from Miyota to Seiko
The original 2022 model used the Miyota OS20 Quartz Caliber. Sternglas shifted courses with Tachimeter 2.0 and is currently using the popular Seiko VK63 Meca-Quartz movement. In addition to the above features, the movement is accurate up to ±20 seconds per month. It also lists three years of battery life. This dial-color-specific caseback depicts a rally car passing through a snowy forest road.
Wrist Tachimeter 2.0
The latest Tachimeter 2.0 is not a small watch, but it goes well with a rug that hugs your wrists. But it certainly has a presence with its large bezel and brightly colored dial. Next is the light yellow fabric strap. It differs from the regular nylon pull-through type due to its tight weave similar to its ridge and tactical rope. Additionally, the material works better with smaller wrists than leather straps due to its flexibility.
I like the overall dial configuration much more than the previous tachymeter models. The colour is unique and works well even when yellow, gray and blue tints aren’t your natural partner. Each subdial is easy to read, but looks unique. Case shapes are suitable for a brand that continues to raise the game. There’s now a lot more about it in terms of shape and finish.
Pricing and availability
Tachymeter 2.0 will soon be available on the Sternglas site and Official retailer. The retail price of the watch is 389 euros for any of the available straps or 449 euros using Beads of Blythe bracelets. This is the competitive price of the Meca-Quartz chronograph, and is a well-made chronograph, especially the Sternglas. Additionally, this colour scheme, new cases and finish make it well positioned compared to other similarly equipped models. What are your thoughts on this latest release? Fantasy it by comparing it to the original tachymeter.
