It’s been a while since I covered Panerai’s collection of lighting fixtures. Mike wrote an article in 2019 about the brand’s expansion from OPXXXIV into a new P.900 movement. He was a fan of the Dew model of a simpler lighting device, mainly due to the dial design, crown system and case shape. The recent introduction of Panerai PAM01539 with a bold burgundy dial felt it was a great opportunity to refresh your mind with the brand’s collection of lightweight, slim lighting equipment. Plus, it’s on a new stainless steel bracelet.
At the time of Mike’s article, the lighting fixtures still had a 30m water resistance rating. Today’s watches have a 50m rating, which makes these slightly formal and elegant models a bit more capable. Let’s take a look at what the new Panerai Lighter provided by PAM01539 has to offer.
Panerai luminor Due Pam01539 and its bracelet
Like the other 42mm models in Panerai’s Illumination Dew Collection, the PAM01539 stainless steel case is 10.7mm thick and 50mm lug-to-lug length. That’s certainly very modest for the Panerai watch. The entire cushion case comes with a sophisticated finish, including the brand’s rock crown guard. This finish, combined with the modest size of the case, makes brightness suitable for more formal occasions. It slides well under the cuff and reflects light with grace.
However, if you want a lighter to look like a tool watch, Panerai offers the new PAM01539 with a new stainless steel bracelet. Its style resembles the distinctive arch of the Crown Guard. The central link has a polished finish, while the main link has both a large brush and polished parts on the bevel and sides. Integrated into the end link is Panerai’s PAM click release system. This allows you to easily switch the bracelet to another type of strap. When included in the watch, there is an additional black elastic strap.
The new bracelet is not exclusive to the new PAM01539. Lighting fixtures are also available in a variety of sizes and materials. Check out Panerai’s website to see if your favorite models have a new bracelet as an option.
Burgundy for Valentine’s Day
As mentioned in the title, this new burgundy colour will arrive in time for Valentine’s Day. The sandwich dial has a slope and slope from the centre Burgundy, making it almost completely black around. Each hour has a ringing time marker, with large Arabic numbers at 6 and 12 o’clock. It also has a small date clipping at 3 o’clock and a subsecond register at 9 o’clock. Aside from the Panerai logo and the “L Swiss Made L Made L” text, the dial is very clean and there is no further printing.
As mentioned in the intro, Panerai’s P.900 automatic movement is fed to the lights. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800VPH, features 23 gems and holds a comfortable 72-hour power reserve. It has a very basic finish, but I can’t see it anyway as all the steel cases are back. But the good thing is that the watch is water resistant to 50 meters, so you don’t need to be overly careful around this water.
Quick thoughts and pricing
Like a microphone, I think the Panerai lighter looks elegant with its small case and clean dial design. I prefer the no-date version, but the Burgundy sunburst vignette dial looks good and at the same time a little mysterious. The Panerai luminor has a deadline of PAM01539, costs 8,400 euros for a new bracelet, and includes an additional black rubber strap. There is also a version with reference number PAM01424. It comes in a black leather strap and costs 7,400 euros. However, it is said that this is only available as a boutique-only model in China.
In the comments below, let us know what you think of lighting fixtures and this bold Burgundy dial in general.
