Hey everyone, welcome to Fratello Talks! How is the best way to spend your hard-earned money as a watch collector? Should you splurge a lot or save for that special piece? One way may satisfy some people’s curiosity and give them satisfaction, but it can also leave you dizzy, your watch box full, and your wallet empty. The other limits the number of watches, which can make them more expensive, rare, and “special.” That’s the topic of today’s podcast. Nacho is joined by Dern and Thomas to weigh in on the issue and share their experiences. If you’ve ever struggled with this dilemma, listen up. this is for you. If you feel strongly about this topic, please vote for the approach below. But before that, let’s take a look at what they have on their wrist.

Let’s start with Dern, who still loves the Cartier Santos Galbe XL. Will he ever wear another watch? At this point, we can’t really be sure. The team began theorizing that perhaps the clasp had broken and he was unable to remove it, but were too embarrassed to say anything. All kidding aside, can you blame him for playing favorites? Clearly, saving for smaller, but more important purchases has worked out well for Dern.
Thomas is rocking forest green VPC Type 37HW. This is not a case of sticky fasteners, but the brand owner’s loyalty to the product. Looks like we’ll have to wait until VPC creates a new watch before we see something different on Thomas’ wrist. But you never know. Perhaps he’ll mix it up from time to time in future shows. Only time will tell.
Following the trend of sticking to what you know, Nacho is wearing Citizen NY0040 again this week. But today, it’s NY0040-09W, and the standard model’s glossy black dial has been ditched and replaced with a luminous slab. This glow-in-the-dark diver sheds light on Nacho’s approach (further solidified by the image below). He has been able to save money several times, but usually he is too busy satisfying his curiosity to save much money. He is a man who repeatedly makes irreparable splurges.
Fratello on: Splurge on lots of things or save for one thing?
Nothing beats a nice, big, complete watch box. Or is it? Perhaps a small watch box with a few carefully selected watches and space to slowly expand is all you need… There is a definitive answer to this collector’s conundrum. Although we do not insist, we will approach this topic and share our experience by choosing one of two possibilities. But is it really a subjective issue? There’s no better way to find out the truth than to vote. That’s why we’re leaving it up to you. Be sure to vote for your favorite approach below. If you want to break the mold and have a different strategy (or an opinion on the two suggested), be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section.
Tune in next Thursday for a new episode of Fratello Talks!
