Last March, Tudor introduced a bold version of the Black Bay Chrono with a pink dial. Ahead of its release, some people have already spotted the watch on the wrists of David Beckham and Jay Chou. Something similar happened this week to British soccer superstar David Beckham and Taiwanese singer-songwriter Jay Chou. Both men were wearing Tudor Black Bay Chronos with what appeared to be turquoise dials. Well, today Tudor will remove all our doubts. Because the new Tudor Black Bay Chrono with a “Flamingo Blue” dial is now officially available to non-Superstars.
Pink is a color that many brands use from time to time, especially in limited editions related to the fight against breast cancer. In the case of Tudor, there is no particular reason behind the use of these tropical colors other than the Miami South Beach vibe that serves as the theme. Oh, and if you thought blue flamingos don’t exist, you’re absolutely right.
Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue”
Interestingly, last year’s pink version of the Black Bay Chrono was simply called “Pink.” Oddly enough, the new turquoise version is called “Flamingo Blue.” Anyway, let’s jump into the specs, which aren’t all that surprising. The Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue” has the same 41 mm stainless steel case as the other Black Bay Chrono models in the collection. This means that the length from tip to tip of the lugs is 50.1 mm, and the case thickness, including the double-domed sapphire, is 14.4 mm. The screw-down pushers and crown make the watch water resistant to a depth of 200 meters.
Similar to the pink and blue boutique editions of the Black Bay Chrono, the new “Flamingo Blue” version also arrives on a five-row Jubilee-style bracelet. Features a T-fit folding clasp. This gives you the leeway to make adjustments on the go without tools. Both the case and bracelet have a polished and satin brushed finish.
The matte dial is a bright turquoise color. Both subdials are black and include white lume on the applied indexes and snowflake handset. The date window at 6 o’clock also has a white background, and the aluminum tachymeter bezel insert is black.
As expected, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono is powered by the chronometer-certified Breitling 01-based MT5813 chronograph caliber. The automatic movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, has 47 jewels and has a 70-hour power reserve. The chronograph works with both a column wheel and a vertical clutch.
What do you think?
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono has a rather original dial color, especially because of the name “Flamingo Blue.” Last year’s pink version was already very popular. To be honest, I expect this turquoise version to become even more popular. I heard that the pink version is quite difficult to obtain, so this new version may not be so easy to obtain. Neither of these Miami South Beach models are limited editions, but it looks like Tudor is having a hard time meeting demand.
The new Tudor Black Bay Chrono with “Flamingo Blue” dial is priced at €5,990 and is available now. Let us know what you think of this new addition by Tudor in the comments below.
