Borna Bosniak
Rounding out our 2024 favorites series is Patek Philippe. This brand will definitely be affected by the recency bias that year. And yes, this is another article about Patek that inevitably brings up the Cubitas-shaped elephant in the room, but since it’s a look back at the brand’s year, I think it’s justified. . Despite not grabbing as many positive headlines as Patek’s leadership had hoped for in 2024, Patek Philippe launched some pretty enviable products last year. Especially for the non-catalogue collection, there were some stunning marquetry dial Calatravas. It really stands out in my mind. The remaining notable new products all have fairly advanced complications, all but one, which happens to be the best Patek of 2024 in my eyes.
Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 5378/1R-001
Starting with the most discreet and elegant bangs possible, we present the new Golden Ellipse with a matching braided gold bracelet. An oval is a great shape on its own, but this chain link bracelet takes it to a new level. In fact, I was surprised at how big it was when I put it on my 16cm/6.3″ wrist (the photo above shows it on Jamie’s 18cm/7.1″ wrist). Measuring 34.5mm x 39.5mm, it has plenty of presence for an ultra-dressy watch. Each individual link is polished to perfection and finished with a truly premium engraved clasp. How surprising! Price: $60,100
Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Moon Phase Ref. 5396G-017
I’m usually not very interested in putting diamonds on my watch unless the watch is specifically made for that purpose. However, Patek Philippe’s approach of using a beautiful baguette for the hour index is a rare exception. It’s an elegant solution that works perfectly with your intended design, yet enhances it without being too flashy. referee. 5396 Annual Calendar gets a similar treatment this year, made even better with its blue gradient dial. Price: $63,510
Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5330G-001
Patek Philippe has a long and legendary lineage of models, and its World Time collection makes a statement as well. This year, it’s part of the “routinization” that pervaded Patek’s Watches and Wonders 2024 release, with many of the highly complex precious metal models equipped with sporty dials, often in blue. Of course, this is still Patek Philippe’s World Time, which means we’re getting a successor to one of the first World Time watches. In this case, it features a patented date display linked to the local time displayed at 12 o’clock. Price: $76,590
Patek Philippe Nautilus Flyback Chronograph Ref. 5980/60G-001
And speaking of that blue dial treatment, it was also applied to Patek’s sportier models like the Nautilus Flyback Chronograph. This is one of the sportiest models in Patek’s entire lineup, thanks above all to the denim blue calfskin strap that feels like a breath of fresh air. However, the case is still white gold, so you don’t have to worry about it losing its reassuring weight. However, the opaline blue dial makes this Nautilus look almost casual, which is unusual for this model’s instantly recognizable shape. Price: $78,950
Patek Philippe Retrograde Perpetual Calendar Rare Handcraft ref. 5160/500R-001
I’ve saved the most decadent pieces for last. It’s just a hand-engraved retrograde perpetual calendar reference. 5160/500R. As part of Patek Philippe’s Rare Handcrafted series, you can expect a completely classic style and decoration method. In this case, that means engraved floral motifs on the dial, case, and hunter display caseback that opens to reveal the beautifully decorated movement. My favorite part is the inside of the caseback, which has a mirror finish that reflects the movement in a golden glow. Price: $202,090
We would like to thank Kennedy, Australia’s authorized Patek Philippe retailer, for putting together a showcase of the brand’s 2024 novelties and for providing us with the photo opportunity.
