Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air. This episode deviates from the original topic and discusses questionable vintage watches. These days, there are too many questionable watches that receive universal praise from “renowned experts.” We’ll get down to business in about 15 minutes.
Sorry for deviating. We both love watches from non-mainstream brands. This means that suspicious activity is common among unscrupulous vintage dealers. Dive deep into the community and quickly find out what’s right and what’s wrong. Hear the story of a watch that had been used for years and somehow found its way to an unsuspecting buyer.
hand gear control
Before you sulk, it’s time to talk about Handgelenkskontrolle. Mike is wearing VPC Type 37HW Dove Gray. The watch just arrived and it’s great! Balazs is still under the weather and is wearing his stunning new Angelus Chrono-Datoluxe.
Suspicious vintage watches and dealers that require disclosure
I don’t know what hurt the collective status of our hosts. We started the show by talking about the Angelus 250 that Mike bought and delivered to Balazs. Balazs has a nice spreadsheet of serial numbers, photos, and dial types. This led him to provide a clean bill of health before Mike made the purchase. Another Angelus 250 was listed on eBay, and Balazs confirmed the serial number. Along the way, someone replaced the dial and polished the case. This leads to a discussion with a vintage dealer about a recent Movado Celestegraph that sold in France for an astonishing 10,000 euros. Unfortunately, this watch does not have a bezel, but many dealers and “experts” have commented on its beauty. Further investigation revealed that the watch was sold to a number of collectors and dealers before it finally ended up in the hands of an unsuspecting buyer. To be fair, the watch just needed to disclose more information to allow for fair consideration.
I hope you enjoy today’s episode. Starting next week, we will start talking about the year-end and New Year holidays. If you have any suggestions for future shows, please let us know.
