Breitling has announced a number of new Avenger models. With some new black ceramic Night Mission editions and new 46mm titanium and 42mm stainless steel Avenger chronographs, there’s plenty to talk about. What immediately stands out on the Night Mission version is the 42mm chronograph, which comes in a sand and turquoise color scheme. What do you think of the 46mm Titanium Avenger Chronograph? There’s a lot to cover in this expansion of the Avenger collection, so let’s take a look at each new watch individually.
If you’re familiar with Breitling’s catalogue, you’ll know that the Avenger is the brand’s line of modern aviation watches. Specifically, it’s a watch made for fighter pilots, so it’s built to withstand extreme conditions. Rex explains that the Avenger has been part of the collection for 20 years and was completely revamped last year. The latest arrival brings a number of new Avenger references to the lineup. The Night Mission models with black ceramic cases look very cool, so let’s start with those.
Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph 42 Night Mission Sand and Turquoise
When Breitling introduced its revamped Avenger collection last year, there were two Night Mission models in the lineup. Each of these Stealth Avengers featured a 44mm black ceramic case. Now, the brand has added two more models with 42mm cases. These look impressively cool. These two watches are 15.15 mm thick and 51.21 mm lug to lug. The black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel with 60-minute scale and famous rider tab gives the watch an unmistakable Breitling personality.
Inside the 300m waterproof case is Breitling’s in-house caliber B01. This COSC-certified chronograph movement operates at 28,800 vph, has 45 jewels and offers a 70-hour power reserve. The beautiful movement is visible through the titanium and sapphire case back, revealing an open-worked rotor with the brand’s logo and neat finishings. The chronograph has a column wheel and a vertical clutch, operated by a large titanium pusher on the right side of the case. I like that Breitling has finished the screw-down crown and pushers in satin-finished titanium rather than black. This creates a striking contrast with the case.
Sand version has also been added to the lineup.
The first of these two Avenger Night Mission models is the impressive sand version (ref. SB0146101B1X1). It features a black carbon dial with black chronograph counters and Arabic numerals filled with sandy luminescence. The 30-minute counter also has sand-colored accents, and the subdial at 6 o’clock has a date window. The watch comes with a matching 22mm military leather strap with a titanium folding clasp. The smaller size and great looks will definitely make it a crowd favorite. This watch is definitely my favorite model in the Avenger lineup and can be purchased for 9,400 euros.
The second version (ref. SB0146101L1X1) combines a black ceramic case with a bright turquoise dial with black subdials. The 30-minute counter features red detailing that matches the red tip of the central chronograph hand, adding a nice pop of color to the watch.
The hands and numerals are coated with white Super-LumiNova, giving it a colorful and vivid aesthetic. Finally, the watch comes with a turquoise military leather strap and a titanium folding clasp. The turquoise version costs 9,200 euros, which is slightly cheaper than the sand model.
Breitling Super Avenger B01 Chronograph 46 Night Mission
If 42mm or 44mm is too small for you, don’t worry. Breitling has you covered. The third new Night Mission model is the Super Avenger B01 Chronograph (ref. SB0148101B1X1). The watch features a 46 mm black ceramic case with a thickness of 15.32 mm, a lug-to-lug length of 54.75 mm, and a water resistance of 300 meters. It features the same carbon dial material and layout as the 42mm Sand version. However, the main difference is that the applied numbers are filled with light green luminous.
Completing the look is a 24mm green military leather strap that tapers neatly to 20mm with a titanium folding clasp. In this case, Breitling uses the same B01 chronograph movement as the 42mm and 44mm models. A 46mm watch seems daunting, but in my experience Breitling knows how to make large watches that are comfortable to wear.
What certainly helps is that the black ceramic case is quite light. This model weighs 120.57 grams, while the 42mm version weighs 109.58 grams. Overall, this is still a large watch, but with its stealthy execution and subdued military green, it doesn’t seem overwhelmingly large. Finally, this 46mm Super Avenger costs €9,600, which is only slightly more expensive than its smaller counterpart.
Breitling Avenger Automatic 42 Night Mission
Next up is the 42mm Avenger Automatic (ref. S17328101B1X1). It also features a black ceramic case that is water resistant to 300 meters, this time with a thickness of 12.25 mm and a lug length of 51.21 mm. For this new version, Breitling has decided to go full stealth mode with a black carbon dial and an anthracite military leather strap with a titanium folding clasp.
White lume and a touch of red on the dial and the tip of the seconds hand provide contrasting color accents. Inside the case is the Breitling Caliber 17, which is essentially a COSC-certified version of the Sellita SW200-1. This automatic caliber operates at 28,800 revolutions per hour and offers a power reserve of 38 hours. This watch can be purchased for 6,100 euros.
Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 44 Night Mission
The last of the new Night Mission models is the GMT version (Ref. S32320101B1X1), which features a 44 mm black ceramic case with a thickness of 12.35 mm, a lug-to-lug length of 53 mm, and a depth of 300 m. Fittingly, the bidirectional black ceramic bezel features a 24-hour scale, and the dial has been recalibrated as well. Therefore, the wearer can track three time zones at once. Beneath the sapphire crystal is a black carbon dial with Arabic numerals filled with light green luminescence and a date window at 3 o’clock. The gray hand that displays local time has white luminescence, while the 24-hour GMT hand is completely white. A small red and white triangle marks the base point for slight contrast. Breitling powers this watch with Caliber 32, a COSC-certified version of the Sellita SW330-2. This Kohler GMT style movement operates at 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of 42 hours. Finally, this model is available for 6,800 euros.
Breitling Super Avenger B01 Chronograph 46
Next to the Night Mission model, Breitling also released several models made of titanium and steel. The first is the full titanium Super Avenger B01 Chronograph 46, which comes with a 46mm titanium case with a thickness of 15.2mm and a lug-to-lug length of 54.7mm. The 300m water-resistant case is combined with a blue dial with black registers and black rehaul (reference number EB0148101C1E1). The two colors are contrasted by gray indexes with red details and white luminescence.
As you can see, there is an integrated date window at 6 o’clock.and this watch comes with a full titanium bracelet. The second version (reference number EB0148101B1E1) has a black dial and registers with red details. Inside the case is the same B01 movement that powers the other chronographs in the series. The watch on a titanium bracelet costs 9,750 euros, However, if you choose the anthracite or blue military leather strap with a folding clasp, you will pay €8,750.
Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph 42
The last three releases are variations of the Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph 42. These watches feature a 42mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 15.05mm, a lug-to-lug length of 51.21mm, and a water resistance of 300m. The first two versions feature a blue dial (ref. AB0146101C1A1) or a green dial (ref. AB0146101L1A1) with contrasting black subdials. There is also a version with a black dial and matching subdials (reference number AB0146101B1A1). All three models feature red details that contrast with the dial color. Inside the case is once again the B01 chronograph movement.
Three different versions are available with a stainless steel bracelet or a military leather strap with a folding clasp that matches the dial. The watch costs 8,100 euros for the stainless steel bracelet and 7,800 euros for the strap. Instead, you get a highly capable modern chronograph with the distinctive Breitling Avenger feel.
Final thoughts on the new Breitling launch
Too many Avengers have come out at once, but overall, I love seeing these new Avengers. The Night Mission model is perfect for my tastes in terms of looks. In particular, the 42mm sand colored Night Mission version is an absolute gem of a watch. If you’re looking for a great military/dessert style chronograph, this is your best option.
