The Borna Bosniak Moser x Massena collaboration takes the form of a modular chronograph that turns Moser’s minimalism on its head. Featuring a 41mm steel case, the Endeavor Chronograph Compax is powered by a combination of an in-house Moser base and a Dubois-Depraz chrono module. This release is limited to 100 pieces and is priced at $27,600.
What do you get when you combine a prominent collector with a particular penchant for old-school chronographs with a brand that draws on its heritage to create minimalist, modern pieces that sometimes border on frivolous? H. Moser & Cie And Massena Labs have teamed up to create the Endeavor Chronograph Compax, and it looks like we finally have an answer to a certainly niche question. For William Massena and his brand, collaborations form an important part of the business, and it’s not just about new dial colors. H. Moser has been working hard on collaborations with Studio Underd0g lately, and the new Endeavor Chronograph Compax will be the brand’s only non-streamliner chrono model, which is a big deal.
While the dial color of the Studio Underd0g collaboration is clearly inspired by the British brand’s usual interpretation of food watches, the Endeavor Compax Chrono stays true to the brand’s codes in a funky blue color while also offering Moser’s usual It’s an inversion of the minimalist aesthetic of . The sunburst and fume finish darkens noticeably towards the edges, and you’ll find an unusual double scale that reads “kilometre à l’eur” instead of the more common “tachymeter” and its variations.
“Compax” For those who prefer to call their chronos accurately, you’ll be happy to hear that Moser and Massena actually call this watch a “Compax.” A dual-register layout featuring small azure sections on the subdials.
But it’s not typical Moser style to drop the most prominent color onto the dial and end it. Especially when you consider the very serious, old-school cursive logo and the decidedly not-minimalist dial. So, to bring the twist you’d expect from Moser’s usual irreverent self, all dial printing, including the logo and tachymeter scale, is decorated with luminous paint.
The Endeavor Chronograph Compax may have taken inspiration from mid-century Moser chronographs, but the steel case certainly isn’t sized like them. With a diameter of 41mm and a thickness of 13.3mm, it won’t wear out like vintage watches. Compared to the time-limited automatic Endeavor powered by the base HMC 200 caliber (11.2 mm height), the additional 2 mm of thickness of the Chrono module isn’t too shabby.
That said, like the funky dial, this is in keeping with Moser’s modern ethos, with only one watch in the brand’s entire collection measuring less than 40mm. This also applies to the case silhouette, which despite its 1950s inspiration looks quite muscular, especially in the shape and width of the lugs and the thickness of the concave bezel.
As mentioned at the outset, this is the brand’s only non-streamliner chronograph model and does not use the incredible Agengraf movement, so Moser had to find another solution. The brand decided to use one of its standard in-house automatic calibers, the newly updated HMC 200, as the base movement and add a Dubois-Depraz chronograph module on top of it, calling it the HMC 220. did. As a result, the view of the case back has changed. It’s almost the same as a 3-handed Endeavor. This means that it doesn’t have any noticeable hand-finished features, but it does have a very beautiful view.
What makes the movement impressive is its specs. The double-sided balance bridge holds the balance with a Strawmann hairspring, and this combination provides excellent shock resistance. The balance itself oscillates slowly at 21,600 vph, which no doubt contributes to the three-day power reserve.
Considering this is a steel modular chronograph watch, the price tag is quite high as a package. But when you consider that it’s within a few hundred dollars of Moser’s limited edition Endeavor model, it looks even more appealing.
