Even if its origins are traced back to a single building, The Bauhaus movement has had a widespread influence on art and product design around the world. It really emphasizes communication, and the visual aspects can intuitively convey the functionality of the product, while also being aesthetically pleasing. The Sternglas Naos Pro Automatik is a perfect example of attractive yet calming clean-cut Bauhaus style, and recent improvements have taken it to new heights.
case
When you look at a watch case, you can instantly tell what kind of watch you are dealing with before you even get to the dial. Sternglas Naos Pro Automatik recognizes that. If the functionality of the watch is primarily handled by the dial, the case should serve to draw more attention to the dial. The case is relatively modest at 38mm, but the slender, polished bezel gives the dial maximum space for expansion. This makes the watch feel larger, even when it fits comfortably on smaller wrists. The smaller lugs also achieve this, with a lug-to-lug length of just 42mm.
Although you might not guess it from the name, the Naos Pro is actually an update to the previous Naos Automatik model. Most of the immediately obvious changes are to the dial, but the case has also been significantly slimmed down to 9mm in height, excluding the domed sapphire crystal. This is what takes the new Naos Pro into dressy territory. The previous version was a little too chunky and felt completely elegant in 12mm. The case is water resistant to 50 meters. Therefore, it is not recommended for swimming. But you don’t have to worry about the occasional splash or accident.
dial
Bauhaus is Often confused with minimalismand while the two share some aspects, the minimalist trap is that less is more. In fact, the Bauhaus philosophy allows for complex, even asymmetrical designs, as long as every piece has a reason for its existence. The Sternglas Naos Pro Automatik’s dial knows exactly where to direct your eye, down to the smallest detail. The hour markers feature elongated printed markings with evenly spaced Arabic numerals, making them easy to distinguish at a glance. The quarters are punctuated with small luminescent dots for added orientation, and the date window is neatly framed above 6 o’clock.
The Naos Pro is available in two dial variations, each with substantially different personalities. The Alabaster Silver version is a beautiful beige tone with a soft matte texture, accented with apple green lume. If your taste is very traditional, that’s probably what you want. The anthracite silver dial, a bit contradictory, uses a charcoal background to highlight the deep blue luminescence of the hands, the orange-ish dots on the quarters, and the bright red seconds hand. I am. It’s somehow more rigorous, yet at the same time more playful, making it versatile for both smart and casual situations.
movement
When choosing Miyota 9015Sternglas has made notable improvements to the previous Naos watch caliber 8215. This movement from the Japanese company’s premium line is much slimmer, allowing it to reduce the Naos Pro’s height slightly. It also features a 4Hz beat rate for smooth second sweeps and a 42-hour power reserve that winds automatically. Accuracy is rated at -10/+30 seconds per day, but most results are well within extremity range. The movement is visible through the exhibition case back, showing off a customized black PVD rotor with a golden Sternglas logo.
strap
Both references of the Sternglas Naos Pro automatic come in three options, giving you plenty of choice to suit your specific style. The matte calfskin leather strap with side stitching is available in brown or black to match the color of the stitching. There is also a five-link stainless steel bracelet with brushed links for a more utilitarian feel, but some detail-oriented enthusiasts may be disappointed as the end links are not attached. In any case, the 20mm lug width allows you to consider aftermarket options, perhaps aimed at enhancing bright colors.
judgment
As an upgrade to the previous Sternglas Naos, it’s clear this little German brand has been listening. Not only has consumer feedback been recognized and reflected in the new design, but elements such as the texture of the dial and colorful lume give the design an even more unique personality. It better expresses the Bauhaus creative spirit than sticking to minimalist, thin lines, and the technical upgrades with its slim proportions and premium movement more than justify the slight price increase.
