Hello. Welcome to this week’s episode of Fratello Talks. What is the most underrated watch brand? That’s the question Nacho, RJ and Dern have chosen for today’s discussion. And they decided to focus on just a handful of brands, even though there are actually a lot of them that don’t get the praise or recognition they deserve. For the sake of brevity, they also specify that they limit their selection to large, mainstream brands that they believe are undervalued. Since it’s a very subjective topic, it always generates interesting and polarizing debates that we’re sure you’ll enjoy. But before we get into it, let’s take a look at what’s on your wrist today.
list check
You might not be surprised to find an Omega Speedmaster on RJ’s wrist today. But you might be shocked to learn that it’s a steel 3570.50 Speedy and not his classic 18K moonshine gold Apollo 11 50th Anniversary model. He also doesn’t wear this Speedy on his bracelet as usual, and the reason for that is briefly revealed in this episode.
Next up is Dern rocking the crowd-pleasing Cartier Santos Galbe XL. This neo-vintage Cartier is a classy number that gets a lot of attention every time Dern posts it on Instagram. With him wearing it so often, it has certainly become an iconic watch on his wrist.
Finally, Nacho put his Tudor Pelagos FXD back on his wrist after a short break and a short honeymoon with the orange-dial Scarfa Wildcard he’s been enjoying for the past few weeks. He seems to be on a mission, determined to find out how many titanium watches one man can own before he runs out (for now, he has 5 I own the books and am starting to count them). Now that I’ve finished checking my wrists, let’s get down to business.
Fratello says: The most underrated watch brand
Tudor, Omega and Cartier are three brands that are never underestimated. But if we had turned back the clock 5-10 years ago, we probably wouldn’t have said that about Cartier. Lately, La Maison and its watches have been in the spotlight. However, some watch enthusiasts have long derided Cartier as “just a jewelry brand.” Now, to keep today’s discussion brief, we focused on big brands that we believe are undervalued. This means they consciously avoid microbrands and independent companies. It would be tempting to think that they are undervalued or underappreciated. Admittedly, they tend to be somewhat niche and known by fewer people than many. But now Nacho, RJ and Dern are focusing on mainstream brands that they believe are under-represented.
As always, please join the discussion. Let us know what you think of these recommendations. Also, please share any brands you think are underrated in the comments below. Also, be sure to tune in next week for a new episode of Fratello Talks.
