Jamie Weiss Alpina’s eponymous sports watch has been shrunk from 42 mm to 39 mm, making it easier for smaller wrists. This small model is available in three dial colors and comes standard with an integrated steel bracelet. It is equipped with a Sellita-based automatic movement and has a robust 200 meter water resistance.
It’s such a great watch that we named it twice. Alpina Alpina may be a slightly confusing name for a product line, but its appeal is straightforward. Alpina has always been a brand known for its sports watches, and the 1938 Alpina 4 is considered one of the first modern sports watches (due to its four key properties: anti-magnetic, shock-resistant, water-resistant, and stainless steel. Named after ). The Alpina Extreme is the sportiest model in Alpina’s modern range, with a thick case combining circular, angular and cushion-shaped elements and an integrated bracelet. It’s a striking aesthetic, but now it’s even more wearable with the new 39mm Alpiner Extreme.
The diameter of the existing Alpiner Extreme is 41 x 42.5 mm, while this smaller model measures 39 x 40.4 mm and is 11.5 mm thick. Alpina seems to have gotten the memo that smaller is better these days – the Alpina Extreme 39mm can’t be accused of being a modest watch, especially since it sits like a plate light on your wrist thanks to its integrated bracelet But it’s definitely more than that. More accessible than its larger sibling.
This small dial model also brings some new dial colors to the fray. You can get a dark blue dial for both sizes, and only dark gray for the 42mm, while the 39mm model has a handsome dark green dial and an eclectic beige model. All models have rubber knurling around the crown that matches the color of the dial, and both 42mm models have a black date wheel, while all three 39mm models have a white date wheel. It has a date wheel and a seconds hand with a red triangle highlight.
The Alpina Extreme Automatic 39mm is powered by the same movement as the 42mm model, the Alpina AL-525 based on the Sellita SW-200-1, which beats at 4 Hertz and has a 38-hour power reserve. The most interesting part of this movement is the funky asymmetrical rotor that evokes mountain peaks, befitting a watch with an Alpine name. This all-in-one sports watch is available with two strap options. Available on a three-row steel bracelet or with rubber numbers that match the color of the dial, both feature a folding clasp with push-button release.
