Earlier this year, Baltic launched the very unexpected and unique Prismic collection. While the brand has always had a strong focus on vintage-inspired designs, the new Prismic takes a more contemporary approach. The watch features clean, angular lines, a case construction using stainless steel and titanium, and a very bold, textured dial. Like Baltic’s other watches, it is well designed, but it’s a breath of fresh air in the Parisian brand’s portfolio. Now, Baltic founder Etienne Malek has launched the new Prismic Limited Edition. Each of the three watches comes with a colorful stone dial inspired by Paris, London, or New York City.
These are the big cities where Baltic has its brand showrooms. In a way, this represents the speed at which the brand is gaining international recognition. With its cosmopolitan and bold design, Prismic seems like the perfect symbol of Baltic’s success story. The Paris version features a vibrant blue lapis lazuli dial, the London version a fiery red agate dial, and the New York version a vibrant green jade dial. Let’s take a look.
Limited Edition Baltic Prismic with Stone Dial
When it comes to the case of these limited edition Prismics, nothing has changed from the previous version. This may seem disappointing, but it’s actually a relief. The width remains at 36mm, and the thickness is 9.2mm, falling just short of the magic 10mm mark. Measuring 44mm from one tip of the angular, chamfered lugs to the other, the Prismic is nice and compact. The mid-case is made of grained grade 5 titanium. The stepped bezel is radially brushed and polished, just like the lugs. The slim yet grippy crown also retains its angular notches. But the dial is a whole different story.
The dial of the previous version had a variety of textures. In the new limited edition, the texture is determined by the different stone types. However, overall, it is much smoother than before. The Green Jade and Blue Lapis Lazuli versions both have a more uneven pattern, while the Red Agate version is more linear. Of course, the color also varies depending on the specific part of the stone used, but overall it is very vibrant. We had the Green Jade and Blue Lapis Lazuli versions in the office, and both showed various shades of green and blue. Some may see this as a flaw, but it also shows the beauty of natural materials.
Baltic has combined sharp dauphine hands that are brushed and bevelled across the entire dial with polished and bevelled applied indexes. The sub-seconds dial has a simple 12 white hash marks, and I like how the small pointer and minute hand have nice caps.
Bracelets and straps
The limited edition Prismic is available with a calfskin strap or a polished stainless steel mesh bracelet. The bracelet is reminiscent of the one on my Serica 5303-3 diver, except that watch has end links. After trying the Baltic bracelet, I can see why: the tight mesh construction doesn’t fit very well and it spreads out a bit on my 17cm wrist. That’s why I prefer to wear the Prismic on a leather strap, so the elegant bracelet doesn’t distract from the bold case design.
Estimated time of arrival
The Prismic is equipped with an ETA (Peseux) 7001 movement – a true classic in the watch world and an extremely reliable workhorse that can be serviced by any watchmaker. The manually wound movement has a 42-hour power reserve, 17 jewels and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour. The see-through caseback offers a good view of the beautiful machine finishes, including Geneva stripes, diamond polished bevels and blued screws.
Only 600 in total
I think Baltic has once again hit the winning note with their new limited edition Prismic. The stainless steel and titanium case is very distinctive with its sharp angles and different finishes. I love how the new stone dials liven up the mix and make every watch unique. The dial layout is simple and nice, but overall it all fits together really well. If you’re as excited about this new Baltic release as I am, hurry up and get yours.
As already mentioned, these Prismic models are limited editions. Only 200 of each version will be made. The watches will go on sale on September 19th at 16:00 CEST. You can buy them online via Baltic’s official website or in one of their three showrooms in Paris, London or New York. Once sold out, they will be permanently unavailable, as Baltic will not be producing any more of these watches. The limited edition Prismic with stone dial is priced at 1,250 euros on a leather strap and 1,310 euros on a mesh bracelet, both excluding tax.
