Fergus Nash The Casio G-SHOCK “CasiOak” comes in a full metal yellow gold colored case and bracelet. Casio is slowly but surely catching up with the modding community by becoming more original and authentic. Solar charging and Bluetooth connectivity make this a very practical watch.
It may have taken Casio a few years to catch up with the modding community, but if you’re looking to experience a CasiOak in a true metal case, the new full-metal G-SHOCK CasiOak in yellow gold color will give you all the digital bling you’ve ever dreamed of. The release of the GM-B2100GD-9A comes after the company adapted the CasiOak into a full-metal G-SHOCK in stainless steel and rose gold finish, continuing to offer an octagonal case design that isn’t a Royal Oak knockoff.
The GA-2100 “CasiOak” is a game changer for 2019, taking inspiration from perhaps the most famous non-diving sports watch to form a retro-futuristic dream octagonal bezel. It combines the luxury style of the 1970s with the spirit of the 1980s G-SHOCK to create an analog-digital hybrid watch that is both voluminous and comfortable. The structure looks even bolder in a full metal case with stainless steel, especially gold-tone steel. The soft octagonal shape is held firmly in place by circular brushings, and the engraved marks on the bezel are a little easier to see, so you never forget what the four pushers do. The rest of the case slopes gracefully downwards with a high-polished finish, and grips on each corner give it tactile functionality and a more aggressive look.
The watch has a diameter of 44.4mm and a lug-to-lug length of approximately 49.8mm. The integrated bracelet might lead you to believe that it can be worn larger than that figure would suggest, but the lugs slope downwards at a steep angle, making it suitable for smaller to larger than average wrists. At just 12.8mm thick, it’s unnoticeable when worn. Thanks to the lightweight digital module, the mass of the stainless steel case combined with the solid steel bracelet weighs in at a robust 165 grams, excluding the extra links. The yellow gold is achieved by ion plating, giving it a highly polished, shiny finish that is highly scratch-resistant.
As you’d expect from a Casio G-SHOCK, it’s water resistant to at least 200m (a YouTube pressure test proves it can withstand even higher water pressures), making it one of the most indestructible watches around. The digital portion of the display has many features, including a hand shift function and an operating indicator at 9 o’clock. These features include five daily alarms, a full auto calendar, a 1/100th second chronograph with split time, and up to 38 time zones with city names. All of this can also be adjusted through the app, thanks to Bluetooth connectivity and solar charging.
